SRM Registration failed with "ERROR Operation Failed Host 'vcsa.vmlab.local' could not be contacted."

Today we were reconnecting a SRM server back to the VC after repointing to a new domain.

The operation failed with below error - similar to this KB - https://ikb.vmware.com/s/article/83185

but /var/log/vmware/srm/drconfig.log was empty

ERROR
Operation Failed
Host 'vcn-vclab.vmlab.local' could not be contacted.

solution was to Remove com.vmware.vcDr from vCenter MOB

https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/1025360

had to remove com.vmware.vcHms to get the replication working and it was the same error.
